Funding Provided to Improve Wilder Youth Development and Build New Facility on Same Property
DCS will use $19 million of the approved funding to begin the design phase for the new Woodland Hills and Wilder Youth Development centers. This joint letter written on behalf of Senator Page Walley (R-Savannah) and DCS Commissioner Margie Quin looks to answer those. They understand some citizens have questions about the plan. The new Wilder hardware-secure facility will have 72 beds and the infrastructure to expand to 96 beds for future needs. Until the new Wilder Youth Development Center is constructed, the current facility will house youth with less serious offenses, a strategy that aligns with the originally intended use of the building.
