First Presbyterian Church Somerville Celebrates Fayette County’s 200 Years

On Sunday, September 29, 2024, members and guests of First Presbyterian Church located just off the Somerville Square observed Fayette County Sunday honoring Fayette County’s 200 years with a worship service and a reception afterwards in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Dr. Thomas Pickering presented a proclamation commemorating Fayette County’s milestone to Fayette County Mayor Rhea “Skip” Taylor that also recognized the mayor’s long service. After worship the church’s tower bell tolled to celebrate the county’s 200 years. Since First Presbyterian Church was also celebrating its 195th year, a framed certificate and a silver platter were displayed for past recognitions celebrating Mrs. Pat McKnight (at left) for her 50 years of service as choir director and Mrs. Virginia Boswell (at right) for her 20 years of service as treasurer of the church.
