Tennessee Justice Bus comes to Somerville Fayette County Library

Photo and article by Randy Rhea
The Tennessee Justice Bus, a cargo van that travels all over the state of Tennesseee, made a stop on Wednesday, September 17 to the Fayette County Library in Somerville. A mobile Law Office that vists rural and underserved communities, the Tennessee Justice Bus is a Tennessee Supreme Court access to Justice initiative that travels all over the state providing free legal advice clinics, particpating in resource fairs and doing community education. On this day, they were holding a legal clinic providing legal advice for, in particular, civil and some criminal legal advice, such as for expungement for non-convictions and expungement legal reviews. They do not provide litigation or attorneys for people, as the attorneys that volunteer to participate are doing so on their own time and work for the administrative offices of the court and the Tennessee Supreme Court, thus they are not allowed to go before judges. If, in the event of having a Private Law Firm Attorney volunteering to help, the Private Law Firm attorney can provide their Legal Card for someone to contact them outside of the Justice Bus, but they will not be representing the Justice Bus or the Tennessee Supreme Court Access To Justice Initiative. For more information on how to take part in partnering with the Tennessee Justice Bus for a Legal Clinic, Resource Fair or Community Education, visit justiceforalltn.org on how to do so.
